Our home in Italy

Discovering the home of Angioletti Italian cider is a wonderful journey… Travel north from the beautiful city of Verona, parallel to Lake Garda, and as the Dolomite mountains become increasingly imposing, ‘wine country’ starts turning to ‘apple country’… The neat lines of grapevines progressively merge in to neat lines of apple trees, but the transition is not as obvious as one might think as these orchards are so beautifully trained and pruned, it can be hard to differentiate them from the vineyards. Sometimes, on a spring day, the white blossom from the apple trees blowing in the wind is like a magical springtime snow flurry – a sight so delightful, it could be the Angioletti’s (or little angels’) own work!

Angioletti Italian cider

As consumers increasingly seek out genuine, high-quality craft ciders (or ‘hard ciders’ as they are known in the US), Angioletti has become firmly established as THE Italian cider. Angioletti’s delicate and refreshing naturally-sparkling style makes our Italian ciders perfect for a cool summertime drink or as an accompaniment to fine (Italian) food.

Making Italian cider

To make Angioletti Italian cider, we press apples from the Trentino-Alto Adige region, add yeast, and ferment the juice under pressure – creating both the alcohol and the fizz. Our ciders are made using the same method as Italian sparkling wines like Prosecco, just with apples, instead of grapes! This simple and natural production process gives Angioletti Italian ciders their clean, pure and intense style.

Sidro Italiano

Cider from Italy has a strange history, and there’s one fairly unsavoury character to blame for this, and his name is Benito Mussolini… Among a few other ill-considered decisions, in the 1930’s he forbade the fermentation of all other fruit other than grapes so as to support the Italian wine industry, meaning cider was effectively illegal in Italy for many years. Fortunately this law has long since been repealed, so we now see it as our job to bring Italian cider to the world!
